Welcome to the Crown Point Festival - sponsored by Nseries. :)
Wrap Up
Well I’m on a train on my way back to the hotel after day 2. I have to say that it was a terrific show with plenty of action and some very cool announcements. I didn’t bother with S60 touch as it’s already been beaten to death around the blogosphere but it’s pretty exciting to know that we’ll likely see some devices announced by the middle of next year!
I had some great meetings yesterday and today and I’ll be sharing the details of some of them over the coming week. I had no idea that I would find my name all over the Emoze stand but it was a great surprise. I’ll be posting about some cool stuff they have in the pipeline as well as their recent addition of google apps support.
A huge thanks goes out to Palringo for providing me with an excellent tool that made this unique coverage possible. Had it not been for Motorola’s obnoxiously loud stand polluting the entire show room on top of typical convention buzz, there would have been much more audio so I apologize for that. I guess they didn’t have much else to draw attention to their display… ;)
Simon Judge Working with Palringo!
Hot news! Simon Judge is probably the most well known and well respected Symbian developer around. Well I caught him chatting with Palringo CEO Tim Rea at the show a moment ago. Why, you might ask? Simon’s expertise has been called upon and he’ll be working on Palringo’s S60 app!
It’s no mystery that I’m a huge fan of their app and now I can’t wait to see what the future will hold…
Adaptxt
KeyPoint is showcasing their soon-to-be released Symbian port of their predictive input solution. Adaptxt is a much-needed alternative to the antiquated T9 that we all know and hate and provides some very unique features such as next word prediction and the ability to learn from an email or file.
Expect much more to come about this incredibly useful app in an upcoming review on SiMo.
EasyPrint
EasyPrint gave me a very cool demo of their print framework which basically gives developers the building blocks to enable printing on S60. Let me reiterate - printing that works, that is.
I watched as they connected to a printer over wifi via a hub, configured page settings and printed off several pdf files. EasyPrint’s solution is quite a nice step in bringing an all-inclusive user experience to Symbian smartphones.
CoPilot Live
CoPilot Live is another sat navigation solution being showcased at the show. It has all of the cells and whistles that we’ve come to expect but I have to say that it touts the most attractive maps and ui I’ve seen on S60. It’s far nicer than Route 66 which is what I’m using now…
Opera Stand
Opera is well-represented at the show with a terrific stand. A highlight for me was learning about Opera widgets. Widgets are built using open web and can be launched without the need to open Opera.
