Background Connection Updates

September 29th, 2008 – 4:54 PM

Effective today, we’ve extended the server functionality which keeps you connected when you exit Palringo on the iPhone:

  • We’ve boosted the time our servers keep you connected to 1 hour when Palringo is not running.
  • We’ve also added offline storage, so received messages are not lost if you exceed this timeout.

To clarify how this works: You can close Palringo, and your contacts will still see you as online for up to an hour. During this time, any messages you receive will be delivered to you next time you enter Palringo, even if you do so after more than an hour.

Of course, we’re still eagerly anticipating the launch of push notifications from Apple. This will allow us to notify you when you have Palringo messages waiting to be read.

How about showing some love to Windows Mobile? :)

@ Steve: This feature is not really relevant to Windows Mobile, because the WM version of Palringo can run in the background.

On the iPhone, an application cannot run in the background without being closed; hence this workaround is necessary.
