It’s been an inspiring couple of days. Thinking Digital is one of the few interesting events which are held locally in the North East of England.
Thinking digital seems to be modelled after TED. The general idea being a convention in which people deemed the worlds greatest “thinkers” give short talks relevant to their field, sharing their experiences, ideas and inspirations.
A few highlights (in order of appearance)…
Tara Hunt presented a great speech entitled “Happiness and Your Business Model”. It focused on developing a happier environment for employees, and a happier company image.
Ray Kurzweil gave an interesting talk on the technological singularity. The premise is that technological advancement has been exponential. Every decade brings a thousand-fold increase in the computational power available for the same cost. The same trend applies to storage density, microprocessor transistor counts, and biological research such as genome sequencing. Ray predicts a future where this exponential advancement in technology continues to fundamentally change the nature of society.
Aubrey de Grey gave an interesting talk on aging. He argues that aging is a side-effect of being alive in the first place. Metabolism and cell division result in mutations, shortened telomeres, and the buildup of chemical ‘junk’. He believes that with continuing advancements in medicine and technology it will be possible to cleanup the buildup of damage in the human body which leads to aging.
We proudly present Sam’s latest masterpiece, demonstrating some Palringo features, and giving a sneak preview of things to come.
