Automated download-y goodness

Well, since I can’t get anon read-only subversion access working, I thought I’d do something nearly as good, automated tarballs for each commit. It’s a complete tarball of trunk after every commit, so not every one will compile, and some may even have really big nasty bugs, and some tarballs might even be missed (since it’s a script I wrote using my very limited BASH knowledge). Still, feel free to download them and give them a go.

BLAST OFF…

Yes, the moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived. The first version of QPalringo has been released.

You can download the tarball from here qpalringo-0.1.tar.gz.
Or you can visit the QPalringo trac page.

This is very early work, and my first real C++ program and also my first Qt program, so be gentle with it :)

Currently there’s no way to get an SVN checkout, so the easiest way to get all the source is to download the tarball. SVN access won’t be enabled for a while, since I need to work a few things out first, and may end up using SourceForge.net or possible Google Code at some point.

If anyone wants to send me a patch, the best place to send it would be andew@palringo.com with QPalringo somewhere in the subject field (so it doesn’t just get spam-dumped) or the email address that’s in the header for all the source files.

Also, if anyone would like an account for trac so they can create tickets, let me know and I may create one for you (depending on if I know you, if you’ve helped with some parts of the code, submitted patches, the moon is blue, it’s a friday in a month with the letter ‘K’ in it, etc).

Currently it only builds on Linux (I’ve developed it in Gentoo Linux, both 64bit and 32bit) but with a bit of work on libPalringo it should also compile on Windows. OS X I’m not sure what needs changing there, if anything.

Do enjoy, and leave any comments you like below :-)

So close I can almost feel it…

Well, the time frame was a bit out because of one thing or another, but it’s getting close now.

New QPalringo Icons

New QPalringo Icons

That’s some new SVG icons I’ve been working on. The 2 monitor icons were provided by “Thyme Cypher“. The standard contact icons come in a nice shade of blue, yellow and gray. Once I get round to it the icons will be superimposed over the contact icons, like the Windows client current does, but for now, this will do.

I have 3 icons left I _need_ to redo, the message icons for text, photo and voice and then I think that’s it. The iPhone icon has a lot more work to do on it, so that will take a while before it’s nicely finished (instead of just a black screen).

I’ve been using the client most of this weekend, and it’s been mostly stable. I haven’t got a disconnected alert in place yet, and it won’t be in the first release, possibly the second though.

Hopefully, if I get time, I’ll be able to check all the source files for the correct GPL headers, credit people in the right place and tarball this goodness up :-)

Stay tuned…

Just a quicky

QPalringo now has message history… almost.

You can get the history, but as soon as you get a message from yourself it opens in a new window instead of being added to the proper chat window. This is a slight oversight with the protocol, but will need to be worked around, still, in a group chat it’s normally ok :)

Audio has now stopped working completely too, not sure why. Not too bothered about that just now though, since I’ll be re-writing all the audio code at some point.

I am hoping to release a tarball of this at some point in the next few weeks, so any Linux users out there, drop a comment. Or any Mac/Windows users that don’t mind trying to compile a Qt program. I’m not even sure that it compiles or runs on anything other than my computer, so it’d be nice to know :-)

Reading you loud and cle… *squeek beep crackle BANG*

Well, that day has finially arrived. The Qt version of Palringo I’ve been working on can play voice messages… sometimes, if you’re lucky.

It’ll play about 1/3 of them, the other times, it’s crashes and burns, and I’m not too sure why. This will do for now though, since I want to get history working next before I gut and re-write the audio backend. This will also help, since I won’t have to keep sending message, I can just use the ones from the history (thinking about it, that might’ve been a better thing to add first ;-) ).

Still a long way to go yet, but, depending on how much time I have for it, I’m hoping to get a pre-pre-…-pre alpha tarball out in the next few weeks, after I’ve spent a couple of days dogfooding it.

I doubt this version will be usable as a main client, since it won’t support joining and creating groups, admin functions, contact properties, identity settings or bridge support, but, for Palringo, it should be fine (if you join your groups in another client, then you can access them still, just not leave them).

Until next time, stay safe and have fun :-)

Wow, so big…

Been a while since I last posted, what with moving ‘n’ all, but there are 2 new ‘features’ in QPalringo

  1. Ordered contact lists - Before they were just added wherever, now there’s a simple ordering added, so all the ‘A’s come before all the ‘Q’s :-)
  2. It’s now possible to double click on images you receive and have them shown in a nice pop-up, just like below…

That is a photo of my screen, sent to myself and then enlarged… I could maybe have chosen a nicer photo to take… and might change it later Now it’s a photo of across the office, with (from left to right) Sam, Alex, Et and Chris :-)

Next up… I’m not sure. There are 13 open tickets I’ve got at the moment, so I think ( rand() % 13 ) will likely be the next fixed one ;-)

Oh, I’ve just remembered a minor #3 bullet point, fixed the most annoying segfault. I was trying to read a QHash in one thread and write in another thread and boom, app died. This happened about 90% of the time when trying to sign in, so it’s rather good it’s gone now :-)

I’ve got it fixed, and also got them shrunk to a manageable size :-) Next I’ll hopefully have a nice popup when you click on them so you can see the full size image again.

I can see you

House, part 2

Hmm, so I broke something with the images, I’ll have to look into that tomorrow…

Anyhow, they were meant to be photos of the letter telling me they’ve got my letter asking them if I can have a house they have up for rent.

‘They’ are these people - Renown

and ‘house’ is this - 25 Falmouth Walk

which you can see - here

The marker isn’t quite right, so I’ve tried to move the map a bit to get it better. You see the gray, red <gap> red cars facing north-south, that first red car between the gray car and the gap, that’s the driveway.

It’s unfurnished, 2 bedrooms and needs a paint job, so I got the first month half price and plan on getting a few cans of paint and doing it… at some point… when I cba.

More info tomorrow, if I can think of anything…

Oh yeah, there will be a house warming party at some point, no idea when, but I’ll post about that later for anyone that feels like attending :-)
